OYL was the first expedition to …..?

Popular celebrity perfumes? All I remember is then JLO Glow by JLo to the first series of purfumes by a celebrity to Popolare. While Britney Spears CURIOUS beat Red Door Elizabeth Arden for most sales and won a prize. Do you guys rememeber? Paris Hilton is at its purfume 4th! FOURTH! Now everyone has one, even the men!

No, it was not. As your other answers, Elizabeth Taylor was the first. I felt some of the celebrity perfumes and they stink. Honestly, I would not wear one of them if they were given to me free. Most of the same smell. People must be buy them because they are fans of the celebrity. How far some fans go. Waste of good money if you ask me.

Fashion continues to evolve, although trends often come back every twenty years or so. In the case of the current decade’s fashion trends, many ’80s trends were revisited. For fragrances, the ’80s saw an explosion of designer clothing brands start their own fragrance lines and, similarly, the ’00s saw another large growth in celebrity name brand fragrances. Although many of these are attached to a larger company like Coty or Elizabeth Arden, the celebrity’s name attached to the fragrance sells the product more than the brand backing it.

This wasn’t the only trend in fragrances from this past decade, however. One notable trend in both perfumes and colognes has been the combination of fragrance types. Before the ’00s, most fragrances stuck to a specific formula, such as a floral, dessert, amber, or woods blend. Over the past ten years, some of these fragrance types were combined together to form, for example, a floral dessert perfume or a tobacco and woods cologne. Additional fragrance subgroups were added, as well, making citrus and aqua colognes and perfumes popular.

This combination of fragrance types was seen often in celebrity perfumes. A scent combining floral and citrus notes, for example, might have had the latest A-list celebrity’s name attached and, for a brief time, sold quickly because of the name association. Of course, when the celebrity lost popularity, fragrance sales slumped and many who didn’t care for the particular celebrity would simply pass over the fragrance regardless. To create a unique scent to be associated with a particular celebrity, often two fragrance groups were combined. Although some celebrities started their own clothing lines, many of these fragrances displaying a celebrity’s name were simply products by larger fragrance companies. From athletes like David Beckham to various singers and actors to celebutantes like Paris Hilton, anyone who was famous briefly this past decade seemed to have a perfume or cologne appear at the height of his or her popularity. And, if their popularity lasted longer, he or she often started a fragrance line.

Aside from these two major trends, other minor trends this past decade seemed to stray away from classic scents and push more toward recent ones. Although classic fragrances continue to sell well, many looked for something new and original.
